La legende veut que ce soit le 1er groupe goth (tout est parti dans un delire journalistique avec Ian Atsbury des Cult en 1982)

Legend has it that Andi was the first Goth of the 80s scene. He lived in a building in London called the Visigoth Towers and living around the corner was Ian Astbury. As a joke, he called Andi either Count Visigoth or the Gothic Goblin (depending on different people's memories) and his followers the Goths. Sans aucun doute un des groupes majeurs de la scene goth anglaise de l'epoque: Sex Gang Children a ete cree en debut des 80's par 2 personnages Daves Roberts et surtout le charismatique Andy Sex Gang.
La musique de Sex Gang est facilement reconnaissable: rythmes cassés, voix de sorciere de Andy Sex Gang et ambiances dark cabaret.
Andy Sex Gang est particulierement fan des travaux de Edith Piaf et reprendra meme en version darl le celebre les amants d'un jour.
Du beau monde a joué dans ce groupe, des musiciens de Theatre of Hate et de southern Death Cult.A ce propos, Ian Atsbury disait de Andy ceci:

One of the groups coming up at the same time as Southern Death Cult
was Sex Gang Children, and Andi - he used to dress like a Banshees fan,
and I used to call him the Gothic Goblin because he was a little guy,
and he's dark. He used to like Edith Piaf
and this macabre music, and he lived in a building in Brixton called
Visigoth Towers. So he was the little Gothic Goblin and his followers
were Goths. That's where goth came from.

Comme tout groupe de ce style, Sex Gang splittera en 1984 et Andy commencera une carriere solo alors que Daves Roberts creera Carchrash International.Le groupe se reformera en 1991 et est toujours actif aujourd'hui

L'album "Song and legend" est une vraie petite perle, j'adore. Les autres j'ai pas encore jeté une oreille dessus à vrai dire.

Très bon groupe assurément, autant au niveau de la voix que des compositions et de l'ambiance.
